Poker is a gambling game in which players place bets to win a pot (the total of all bets made during a hand). In addition to the basic game rules, the group should decide on a maximum number of players and a system for dealing cards. It is also a good idea to establish a fund for extras, such as food and drinks. This is sometimes called the kitty and is usually built up by taking one low-denomination chip from every bet in which there are more than one raise. When the kitty is full, it is divided among the remaining players equally.<\/p>\n
There are hundreds of different ways to play Poker, and the rules differ from casino to cardroom, but the basic principles remain the same. For instance, the game always starts with players placing a bet of some sort \u2014 known as a blind bet or an ante \u2014 before they are dealt cards. The game ends when all the remaining players reveal their hands. The best poker hand wins the pot \u2014 the sum of all bets made during the final betting interval. A pair is two cards of the same rank, and a flush is 5 consecutive cards from the same suit.
