Unlike other Vegas movies, Casino is not afraid to show the dark side of Sin City. It lays bare its deep ties with organized crime and shows how gambling corporations eventually took over the city. But it also showcases the opulence and neon signs that make Vegas famous. This is one of the best gangster films ever made and a testament to Martin Scorsese\u2019s skill as a filmmaker.<\/p>\n
Despite being a long movie, it never lags or runs out of steam. Scorsese\u2019s use of editing and narration keeps the film tight and gripping until the end. He also makes great use of the performances of Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci. The characterizations are spot-on and the dialogue is excellent. The film\u2019s underlying themes of corruption and how it can destroy families are well conveyed as well. The story about Nicky\u2019s descent into scumbaggery is one of the most compelling ever put on screen.<\/p>\n
Casino is a great movie to watch with friends or a significant other. It is not a movie for children, though. The violence is graphic at times, and some of the scenes are disturbing. But this is how it was in real life and it is accurate to portray how the mob controlled Las Vegas.<\/p>\n
